Portable signals replace manual flagging with a clear and consistent control of alternating traffic. They need no excavation and no grid connection, they can be moved as the work advances, and they keep working through the night.

Frequently asked questions about temporary traffic lights
What are temporary traffic lights?
They are portable traffic signals used for a limited period, usually at road works, to control alternating or diverted traffic. They are battery powered and linked by radio, so they need no excavation or cabling.
How are the timings set?
The green time follows the traffic on each approach, and the all-red time follows the length of the controlled section and the speed of vehicles through it, so that the section is clear before the opposite direction starts.
How long do portable signals run on their batteries?
It depends on the battery capacity and on the solar charging. Units with solar panels are designed for continuous operation, and we check the batteries during the works.
Can portable signals control more than two directions?
Yes. Multi-phase sets control three or four approaches, which covers temporary junctions and site entrances.
