Traffic light systems in Saudi Arabia: design, supply, installation and maintenance
X Arena delivers complete traffic light systems, also known as traffic signal systems, for intersections, corridors and pedestrian crossings in Saudi Arabia. From our office in Jubail in the Eastern Province we work with municipalities, royal commissions, developers and main contractors, and we cover every stage from signal design to long-term maintenance.
A signalised intersection is more than three coloured lamps. It combines a traffic signal controller, a roadside cabinet, LED signal heads, poles and mast arms, vehicle and pedestrian detection, power and communication cabling, and often a link to a central traffic management system. We supply and integrate these parts as one working system, built to the project specification and to the requirements of the road authority.
What a complete traffic signal installation includes
Traffic signal controllers
The controller runs the signal plan of each junction. We configure fixed-time, vehicle-actuated and adaptive operation, coordinate neighbouring junctions into green waves and set up conflict monitoring so that unsafe signal combinations cannot be displayed.
LED signal heads, poles and mast arms
Vehicle and pedestrian LED signal heads, countdown timers, poles, mast arms and foundations, selected for visibility in strong sunlight and for long service life in heat and dust.
Vehicle and pedestrian detection
Inductive loops, radar and video detection tell the controller where vehicles and pedestrians are waiting, so that green time goes to the approaches that need it.
Cabinets, power and communication
Roadside cabinets with power distribution, surge protection and UPS backup keep the junction running during supply interruptions, while fibre or cellular links connect it to the control centre.
How X Arena delivers a traffic signal project
Survey and design
Site survey, signal layout drawings, phasing and timing plans, cable schedules and material submittals prepared for approval.
Supply and installation
Ducting and cabling, pole erection, cabinet and signal head installation, coordinated with the civil works on site.
Programming, testing and commissioning
Controller programming, factory and site acceptance tests, and a supervised switch-on of the junction.
Maintenance and upgrades
Preventive maintenance, fault response, spare parts, and upgrades of older junctions to LED signal heads and adaptive control.
Where our traffic light systems are used
Urban intersections and corridors
Signalised junctions on city roads, coordinated along a corridor to reduce stops and delay.
Industrial cities and port roads
Junctions that carry heavy trucks and shift traffic in industrial areas such as Jubail.
Pedestrian and school crossings
Push-button and detector-operated crossings that give pedestrians a protected time to cross.
New districts and developments
Signals planned together with the road network of a new development, ready to connect to its control centre.
Frequently asked questions about traffic light systems
What is a traffic light system?
A traffic light system, also called a traffic signal system, is the equipment that controls the right of way at a junction or crossing: the controller, the signal heads, the detectors, the cabinet and the cabling that connects them.
Does X Arena supply and install traffic lights in Saudi Arabia?
Yes. X Arena designs, supplies, installs, programs and maintains traffic light systems across Saudi Arabia. Our office is in Jubail, Eastern Province.
What is the difference between fixed-time and adaptive traffic signals?
Fixed-time signals repeat a set timing plan for each period of the day. Adaptive signals measure traffic with detectors and adjust green times continuously, which helps when demand changes during the day.
Can existing traffic signals be upgraded?
In most cases, yes. Older junctions can be upgraded with LED signal heads, new controllers, detection and communication without rebuilding the whole junction. We assess the existing equipment first and propose the upgrade that fits it.
Can the signals be connected to a traffic control centre?
Yes. Controllers can be linked by fibre or cellular communication to a central system, so that operators see faults, change plans remotely and coordinate junctions.
